Week 2 - Wendigo

Oh God I am so terribly scared of submitting this you guys have no idea. I feel rather pathetic. xDDD However, I worked hard on it and it would be ridiculous of me to get scared now and back off. So I'm submitting it.

Needless to say, this is nothing like anything you'll find in my gallery, haha. This is kind of a goal of mine for this year, to try new things and get out of my comfort zone as much as I can.

Week 2 picture for . This time I decided to give a try at a more painting-like image. It was my first time using the brush I used and I'm incredibly happy with the results, considering my total lack of experience. xDDD I know I can do so much better though, so I suppose I'll just keep trying!

I actually had gone OCD and planned all my weeks already, but then I saw the suggested theme for this week and it was like "... oooh damn.", haha. I just had to go for it. So here you have one of my favorite mythological creatures, the Wendigo. If curious, you can read the Wikipedia article about them here. If even more curious... Well, look them up yourself. xDDD

To tell the truth, I didn't know how to represent a Wendigo. There are many interpretations of what it looks like, and I don't like any of the ones I've found so far, haha. To be honest, I don't like mine either. But with the artistic skills I have so far, it's what I could manage. Maybe someday I can show you guys what comes to my mind when I think of a Wendigo. In the meantime... Yeah. I looked up pictures of human skulls and then pictures of deer skulls and I wanted to kind of mix them together BUT THEY DO NOT GO WELL TOGETHER AT ALL. So instead you get a pseudo (I did give him a deer nose! On the wrong place but still xD) human skull. With horns. Because I wanted to.

The Wendigo is associated with winter, cold and famine so I gave him fur around his neck, but none anywhere else. He's terribly skinny (though I somehow screwed that up), too. I know his eyes look funny but I wanted shiny eyesss D: So you'll have to deal with them.

I've been working on this through the week (when I wasn't being dragged around by my parents), and I was afraid I wouldn't finish on time, but then today I had nothing to do all day so I finished him up. x3 I had a really cool background in mind at first but that also did not work out so I figured a simple background would do better.

Why does the fur look more realistic than everything else to me this is so not fair.


*ahem* So uhm... Tell me what you think, please? I really need feedback to improve. @_@
